What are slides? How do they work?

You will often hear the term “slide” or "slide-out" in association with fifth wheels. The term refers to the sliding wall. Most fifth wheels have at least one sliding wall (some large US models have 3 or more) that extends at the press of a button. The sliding walls substantially increases the interior living space. Slides can be either extended by an electric motor or hydraulic ram.
